My Mondrian Monday Art Journal Page #2 on 24 March 2025

 Welcome to Becca's Quest for Love and Country Creativity blog!

post's purpose...why = Well, folks, I've stayed committed to this new journal to bring you #2 for my Mondrian-inspired art journaling notebook! Piet Mondrian's geometric blocks style paintings were unique for his time period and have inspired many artists during my time for the modern, contemporary flair. For #2 I've continued to use a green and yellow and white (left blank) color palette.

My Mondrian Mondays Journal Page #1 on 17 March 2025

Welcome to Becca's Quest for Love and Country Creativity!

post purpose: My plan is to do 2-3 Mondrian Monday Journal Pages each month which will be dependent on how some of my challenge blogs land. Because most of mine start on a specific # date and 2 are Friday/alternating and 1 other on first Saturday of each month. A certain artisan blogger has been doing Mandala Mondays for several years that I'm aware of so I didn't want to copy her but I liked the idea of alliterating. So Piet Mondrian, famous Dutch painter and art theorist from late 1800s - early 1900s became my inspiration. I tried to do this with as much randomness that I could. I didn't want the color tones all being used 2x each nor the sizes of the 'boxes' to be the same.

when: blog post will be published on Monday, March 17, 2025; this is a non-design team project; no commitment to any of my challenge blogs or to ones I manage or am just a DT member for someone else's blogs.

what: Mondrian-inspired Journal Page #1 =

~~ fact from some childhood Christmases:

my grandparents lived over 2 hours apart and when I was very young, a couple of interstates weren't completed so travel took longer on state or county roads;

during the summertimes, the little roadside ice cream shops were plentiful and when my sister and I traveled as little girls with our maternal grandparents, we'd always comment, "there's goes another one!" hee-hee!

in the winter season for Christmas gathering, generally my maternal side gathered a day or two afterwards. being in rural Illinois, many years the driving would be hazardous with ice and/or snow-pack.  several times we had to stay overnight with no extra clothes or anything, unless we received something in the gift exchange!

my mom was the Queen of Jello salads! She had recipes for maybe 15-20 variations of gelatin salads and desserts. Orange Jello with pineapple and carrots. Lime Jello with pears. Cherry Jello with cherry pie filling. Whipped Lime Jello with marshmallows and cottage cheese. Orange Jello with mandarin oranges and whipped cottage cheese and crushed pineapple. Lots more. There would always be 1 or 2 that would travel for Christmas meals. She also made the best Vanilla Caramels and Chocolate Caramels. She would also sprinkle chopped pecans on half of them too. These would be cut into 1" square pieces and wrapped in waxed paper. Yummy!

The caramels were only made for Christmas through New Years. She also had a pastry dessert called a Swedish Roll, sweet yeast dough punched twice to rise and then rolled out, covered with melted butter then sprinkled with cinnamon, sugar, and pecans. It would be rolled from side to side to create a long 'log'. After baking she iced with a confectioner's topping and then maraschino cherries in both red and green would be drained and then cut into shapes so when arranged to look like holly berries and leaves arranged for accenting on top.

YUM!

~~ interesting kitchen fact from my childhood =

my mom was reared as a farmer's daughter and she pretty much raised my sister and I to continue the tradition of helping out in the kitchen and garden as soon as we were old enough to fold washcloths and dad's handkerchiefs, rinse plates and stuff and set in the drying rack, and picking strawberries or peas or beans from the garden, etc.

As each year and growth in height occurred, gradually responsibilities grew. By age 9 I was enrolled in 4-H Club first year of cooking projects...cereal treats, gelatin, egg, baked potato, simple and easy.....
