Welcome to Becca's Quest for Love and Country Creativity!
why: This blog post is my 18th for showcasing geometric designs that have been influenced by the paintings of late Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. Go to the bottom to see inspiration for this journaling page. This particular notebook was started in March 2025.
when: #18 will be published on Monday night, August 18, 2025
what: #18 installment in My Mondrian Mondays Journal Page notebook
how-to & a few vendor notes for #18=
1. journal notebook with elastic band closure; 80 sheets of peach tone graph paper; distributed by Dollar General stores/corporation
2. colored pencils = the 3 blue tones are all Marvy Uchida watercolor pencils; the lighter red is by Crazy Art and the darker red is Crayola
3. mechanical pencil, ruler = stash
4. thicker marker tip = black dual-tip permanent marker = Art Skills
5. thinner marker tip = black retractable marker pen = Zebra Clickart
6. the smaller sections on the left are a nod to the 1929 painting
7. the larger/longer sections on the right are a nod to the 1922 painting
8. some time references: my paternal grandparents were born in 1905 and 1910; my maternal grandparents were born in 1913 & 1914; and my in-laws were born in 1917 & 1918. Then my dad was born in 1937 and my mom in 1939. My husband is 12-13 years older than me and was born in 1949 while I was born in 1962. I find it interesting that Mondrian's geometric/color block paintings were considered 'modern'. But visit the website/organization shared below where some of his masterpieces are featured to find out he did paintings in other styles. You will be pleasantly surprised.

1A. The Color Hues Challenge; new on Aug 18; use only tones of blue and red and allowed neutrals; I've kept my geometric design to 3 blue tones, 2 red tones, white/blank spaces and black.

I'm grateful for Piet's masterpieces that have been saved and photos of them are being shared on the internet today. I don't have any Dutch lineage but I feel a bit of kinship with Mondrian. <3
